Remo Gysin was a member of the cantonal government and health director of the canton of Basel-Stadt for 8 years, followed by 12 years as a member of the National Council, where he was, among other things, a member of the foreign policy committee and co-president of the parliamentary “Groupe Suisse – Solidarité internationale”.
Remo Gysin was active in an honorary capacity in several governing bodies of development cooperation, including Swissaid, the Solifonds and the Global-Lokal Foundation.
He also carried out several peace and democracy missions in Croatia, Bosnia, South Africa, Tajikistan, Indonesia and Azerbaijan.
Remo Gysin has been President of the Organization of the Swiss Abroad since 2015.
